Rust GTK-based crates are hard to use with current linux distros.
I used gtk-rs for a few small guis in the past and now I'm looking to use it again but I've noticed that the development focus has switched to gtk4-rs and other crates like Relm4 does the same.
Looking at the commonly used distros like Ubuntu and especially Centos which is widely used in big tech companies, I found that none of them are currently ship with Gnome 40 (gtk4) and even the recent Ubuntu 21.04 is still using Gnome 3x.x.
Now, it is possible of course to build gkt4 on any linux environment, but in many cases it's very hard and borderline impossible due to complexity of build process and company policy.
So I'm wondering if the shift of focus to gtk4-rs happened too early and we'd better to stick to gtk3 for longer? Or maybe gtk3-rs has reached stability and there's nothing to worry about? It's been awhile since I used it.
Has anyone used gtk4-rs for anything? If so, what was your linux distro or did you build gtk4 from source?
Thank you!
