What are dumb things you tried to do with rust and blamed rust for stopping you from doing it?
I'll start:
The first time I tried rust was almost an year ago. At that time I was learning other system languages such as C and C++ And other GC lang such as Python.
At that time, I was being fascinated by these videos where they seemingly C/C++ semantic rules by pointer hacks. Usually like changing value of a variable which is declared as const.
Therefore, when I first tried rust, I tried to violate the borrow rules and compiler always caught this. I was initially amazed by the keen eye of the compiler. Not only it just detected an error, it also pin-pointed where I'm doing wrong.
Eventually I got frustrated and gave up on it. And after that, I slowly started to appreciate how robust it is, when my C++ programs always ended up getting segfaulted somehow.
