cargo-release automates the release process for your crate. For example, with clap, all I do is add entries to the CHANGELOG and run cargo release patch and cargo-release takes care of updating files, publishing to crates.io, tagging, and pushing.

The last release featured here was 0.17. Highlights since then include:

  • Workspaces: new shared-version = true config flag to keep the versions the same among coupled crates
  • Workspaces: shared tag support, just set shared-version = true and set the tag-name config field to be the same
  • Workspaces: warn users when skipping changed crates
  • Made defaults more self-documenting with --dump-config option
  • More consistent CLI and config file
  • Several bug fixes related to workspaces
