Rust as first lower-level language
Hi Rustaceans,
I've been following Rust for some time now and I've got to finally get a good grasp of it by overcomplicating some of my AoC solutions and reading some other stuff. I know quite a few languages and I'm about to teach someone who just knows Python (and some R and Bash) a lower-level language to learn "how it's works under the hood" and all that. For me, having good C++ knowledge and practice helped appreciate all the Rust features, and having played with unsafety and shooting myself in the foot many times also helped me get a better understanding of what's going on. I'm also quite comfortable with templates and restrictions with monomorphization (used to love playing with the TMP mess), so the abundance of generics in most Rust code wasn't a problem either.
So, my question is: would you recommend Rust as a first lower-level (than Python) language to someone? I don't have that point of view, and in my case I really appreciated knowing C++ (I guess C should have been enough too) to better understand some parts of Rust and why it is designed the way it is.
