tracing-texray: A library to visualize tracing spans at a glance
I frequently run into cases where I'm working on something in-the-small and just want to quickly see where time is being spent and when things happen. There are some really powerful tools to do this, but I don't necessarily want to wire them up. So I made tracing-texray (text+xray), which is a tracing layer that can show you a timeline of your spans & events:
load_data 52ms ├────────────────────────────────┤
download_results{uri: www.crates.io} 11ms ├─────┤
>URI resolved ┼
>connected ┼
compute_stats 10ms ├─────┤
render_response 6ms ├──┤
Unlike most tracing layers, you explicitly opt into the root spans that you care about with examine, which enables this to be used for specific things you care about without overwhelming terminal output. More docs and examples at docs.rs / GitHub.
After I wrote this, I immediately found a bug where I was running tasks in series instead of parallel, hope this helps other folks as well.
