Shuttle: we’re building a serverless platform in Rust!
Frankly, if you want to ship web apps written in Rust, the cloud sucks. Say what you will about AWS but it is incredibly complex, even for seemingly simple tasks. Then there are "simpler" providers like Heroku, which are ok until you actually hit moderate traffic and your bills start to stack up massively.
Enter shuttle.rs an open-source serverless platform written 100% in Rust, which treats your apps as plugins, not containers.
Why?
We're big fans of serverless platforms ourselves, we've used a lot of them in the past for small and large projects, mostly node.js based. We love the simplicity of not having to care about scale and the fact it's usually faster and cheaper. But when we started looking into existing platforms that say they support Rust we could not find a single one that actually makes use of some of the awesome Rust features like static analysis tools and code generation. We’ve been using (and loving) Rust for about 3 years now. Witnessing the power of the language, the quality of the crates and tooling, and the awesome community. We’ve been inspired to create a cloud platform that treats Rust as a first-class citizen.
Project Status
The project is currently in Alpha and we’re looking for people to try it out and give us some feedback. You don’t even have to pay anything we’ll host your app for free!
As for the team, we’re a small venture-backed company of 7 people who are really excited to be working on this. shuttle is open source, and it’s going to stay that way forever.
Our plan over the next 3-6 months is to get traction from the community and raise money to accelerate the development of the project. We really think we’re building something valuable and we need to hit certain traction milestones to make sure we can continue growing and stay in this for the long haul.
If you want to help and have some time, join the conversation on Discord. We’re looking for test pilots to try out shuttle as well as ideas on how we can turn this project into an incredible experience for the community.
