"Surpassing" Go & the near-future of Rust: in what domains will Rust succeed?

88 points kle0ist

CS newcomer here; been a r/rust lurker as of late! Y'all just surpassed r/golang in user count (not to mention activity—community engagement's been a cornerstone of Rust for some time, it would seem).

This is fascinating to me. It's my understanding that Rust is generally a system programming language, whereas Go is general-purpose... and what's more, it's up against the likes of C. But in spite of this, Rust is very clearly establishing a presence in most mainstream domains.

So, question(s):

Much like w/ webdev and WASM, in what other big-ticket domains do you expect Rust will soon succeed (Game dev? embedded? Machine Learning)? What do you think is responsible for this trend, and do you see it prevailing?

Feel free to cite other threads and/or external readings. Much love, and thanks! ❤️ 🦀
