Keyword abbreviation

What led to the decision to have most keywords in rust be abbreviations?

• mod instead of module
• str instead of string
• fn instead of function
• and so on

When I learned the language I ended up doing many google searches like "rust mod keyword" and then having a big aha moment. So for me, it would have been easier to have more verbose keywords.

This is not meant as a bash or anything I am just genuinely curious about what led to the decision to design the language that way and what were the thoughts behind it.
