Melody 0.18 (a sane alternative to regular expressions)

165 points yoav-lavi

Hey!

It's been a while since I updated you on Melody, wanted to share some of the improvements with you.

Melody is a language that compiles to regular expressions and is written in Rust. The goal behind it is to provide a language with the same power and capabilities of regular expressions, but at the same time be extremely clear, readable and maintainable. It should reduce the high (in my opinion) "WTF / minute" ratio present in regular expressions, which I believe derives from them being write optimized. If you agree with the previous statement, Melody should (hopefully) feel like the difference between a source map and minified code, or like the original prompt at a code golf competition.

At this point, Melody should cover a lot of use cases and is worth giving a shot!

Melody has a compiler crate which can be used in Rust, and a CLI that is standalone.

Some recent highlights:

-\tSupport for unicode categories has been added
-\tMelody can now be used in Node.js
-\tMelody can now be used in Deno
-\tMelody now has a Babel.js plugin
-\tThe CLI now allows testing against a string or file

Thank you!
