For what reasons should you chose rust for backend development over other options?
Basically if you want to convince someone else, what reasons can you show.
I can see rust's advantage in
- system programming : speed and memory safety
- frontend : if you need WASM
What does rust's backend ecosystem has as an advantage over its competition?
- Node : if you want your frontend and backend in single stack and have full stack developers.
- dotnet and Java : targets big corporations that want standardization and opiniated structure. If you go from one company to another the dotnet project structure and other basics will still be exactly same. Thus making onboarding new people fast and efficient.
For rust :
- cost (maybe?) : I read somewhere that in serverless design Rust backend cost the minimum. (Don't quote me on that lol)
- Anything else here???
- Edit 1 : correctness as suggested by drogus.
- Edit 2 : From below replies. It seems cost saving is also a significant point.
- Edit 2 : document generation.
These probably won't make much difference :
- Type safety : Typescript, dotnet, java, etc have that one covered.
- Speed : In most cases won't matter. In most backend systems waiting for network calls would be the bottleneck. Unless you've a very high CPU intensive backend.
