Ownership as explained in the Rust book
Am I the only one to think that the Rust Book does a sub-optimal job in explaining ownership, while being convoluted about other topics in the process ?
First off, it starts by explaining the difference between stack & heap. Well, that's clearly not where I would have started, but to each their own.
Then it keeps confusing low level topics like allocation with what's actually going on semantically, all that with diagrams about strings that are pretty complex.
Two questions:
- are there alternative explanations of ownership in other Rust tutorials that people here prefer/like to refer to ?
- Is that a random/new complaint or is that known? Would there be interest in rewriting it ? Being the first introduction to the most foreign topic about the language, it's pretty important.
For reference I'm a software engineer in the domain of languages/compilers, and also a teacher that has been tasked with teaching Rust to young students. I have followed my own different path about how to explain ownership to students.
