What I like about rust

Most of the code I have written is in Javascript, Typescript, Python and PHP - so closest I've gotten to statically typed language is Typescript, python with type hinting and PHP with type hinting - I think they're great tools and provide some peace of mind but they're far from perfect and practicality wise, even with typescript it feels like I'm working with an afterthought (which it is, which I still love to use).

With rust it feels different, typing seems to be at the heart of the language - I like the feeling of looking at a statement and having answers to all those questions:

  1. is this going to be changed at some point?
  2. is this a reference to something defined earlier?
  3. is this function going to mutate my variable?

etc...

It alleviates a lot of the anxiety that I have come to associate with aforementioned languages, looking at a variable and following it with squinted eyes, trying to find out if it's being mutated somewhere etc... I am aware of existence of C/C++ but those have old man smell
