Doomé: our raytracing-based game for GitHub's Game Off 2022!

Together with u/mrDzejkop we've created a game for GitHub's Game Off 2022:

https://dzejkop.itch.io/doome

tl;dr the topic was cliché and our game is Doom meets Portal meets The Stanley Parable, with real-time raytraced graphics (that work plenty fast even on a CPU) and a 10-minute storyline!

spotlights!

flashlights!

vaporwave!

enemies!

Our entire game, including a hand-made raytracer, was implemented in Rust:

... with the shader-based raytracer made possible thanks to https://github.com/EmbarkStudios/rust-gpu; we're also using Bevy for handling input events & the ECS functionality.

Having completed the game, we're now refactoring our raytracing engine so that we can harmlessly publish it to crates.io for others to use :-)

Also, a few days ago we're given a talk on Rust Wrocław's meeting about our little gamedev adventure - starting from raytracing, going through the knapsack problem, WebGL 2.0 limitations, and ending up on the woes of custom physics engine - check it out if you're into this stuff!
