Fish Folk: Jumpy v0.5 – completed MVP of Bevy rewrite

Since late September we've been rewriting 'Fish Folk: Jumpy' in Bevy, headed up by Jumpy's new lead dev zicklag. With the release of v0.5, we now set our sights on a crowdfunding campaign due to launch in early 2023. To try the game, download it directly from the link above, or install our Spicy Launcher to easily download the newest version of any of our games whenever they're updated.

This is undoubtedly the game’s final iteration. Both the initial Macroquad version and our subsequent \*quads-based custom engine worked perfectly fine, but as each respective lead dev departed from the project we were left with a codebase that couldn't easily be picked up by a successor.

When we first started making this game three(!) years ago, Bevy was in a very different state. In early 2022 we began prototyping some new games with it, and to our great delight we found the engine to now be stable enough even for an ambitiously long-term project like ours.

We gain a lot from standardizing on Bevy as our default engine, which we’ve now used successfully in other fishy games like Punchy and Bomby, with more to come. It’s easier for devs to jump between different games this way, and key pieces of tech like our modding system and networking architecture can be reused across our entire catalogue.

Perhaps most importantly; we get to participate in the vibrant Bevy community, which has made it easier than ever for us to connect with new collaborators who vibe with our open approach to commercial game development. Going forward we're not just gonna be a Rust-first game studio, but also Bevy-first! 🐠+🪶=💕
