[ANN] - An Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger version of Uber's H3 in Rust
A month has passed since I've gained some unsolicited free time... so I've used it to work on this little project I had in mind for a while.
And it's now ready for prime time.
The Hydronium Project is mainly a rewrite of the H3 library in Rust, featuring a nice perf boost (2-digit speedup in some cases) for several core functions. It also comes with:
- bells and whistles (e.g. GeoJSON support, compatibility with the geo crate, ...)
- a convenient CLI to quickly test ideas and process data directly from the terminal
- an H3-compatible C API to ease the adoption
- a novel compression algorithm tailored for H3 cell indexes
If you wanna know more, you can go read this article which goes into more detail.
Last but not least: kudos to the H3 devs!
The rewrite has been a breeze thanks to the exemplary state of their codebase: good code, well-documented, and duly tested. It was a pleasure to dive in.
