The millionth implementation of lox in rust
So I wrote an implementation of the lox compiler and VM (from Bob Nystroms great book: crafting interpreters), and I had a very, uh, boring take away from the experience - rust is achieving its goals - at least some of them. If anyone is curious, you can find my impl here: https://github.com/mogendi/rlox (try not to cringe)
- Productivity & reliability: I somehow managed to get through an entire "system" implementation without having to pull out Valgrind or any memory profilers, well that's probably because I completely avoided unsafe and the performance might have benefited from some of it in some places, but regardless, that is incredible in comparison to C, especially for someone as inexperienced as me who would start needing to track every deref after the 500th line.
- Speed: I probably did everything wrong in this project, but it still somehow managed to squeak by a very similar implementation in java.
This post is probably going to be seen by very few people, but its a very minor pat on the back for anyone working on rust from someone who now fully appreciates the vision :).
