Rust in Automotive

I was on the Embedded World congress 2 weeks ago, held in Nuremberg. I'm on automotive and one of the topics I wanted to check is how Rust is going to impact on this industry, so I wanted to sense this during the congress. I basically got two (expected) feedbacks: it's going to be a boom pretty soon vs this is an unfounded hype. I know the Autosar consortium has a team working on Rust, but it is aimed to Autocars Adaptive, quite understandable as it can run on containers in POSIX systems. But I'm on Autosar Classic, bare metal in a sense, and there I have no feedback. One of the companies I visited, had a complete system in the scope of Autocars Classic running. Of course it was just a proof of concept and bringing that to a series project would represent a massive amount of work, but anyway there it was the concept. They had teamed up with a compiler company who did create their rust compiler and qualified it against ISO26262 and with a microcontroller supplier to create the device drivers (in rust). I see lots of issues when trying to use Rust for a project and thus I think it will need some years before Rust hits automotive, but I'm concerned erring in this estimation and be late when it's needed. What do you think about it?
