What exactly is the tokio foundation?

Everyone talks about the advantage of axum over other backend technologies because it is backed by the tokio foundation. Searching online I can't find much about what it actually is. And I think it is important to know about it's history, how it makes money, etc if you want to make an argument that being backed by them is a good thing.

Any thoughts about this?
