Hello Rustaceans, ๐Ÿฆ€๐Ÿ‘‹

Iโ€™m super excited to share our recent contribution to the H3 crate: the integration of WebTransport support! ๐ŸŽ‰ A special shout-out to my partner in crime, Tei Leelo Roberts, who played a key role in making this happen. Teamwork makes the dream work! Take a look at the pull request right here ๐Ÿ”—.

For those diving into the details, WebTransport is a modern protocol for multiplexed and low-latency transport over HTTP/3. This is a boon for applications requiring high throughput and minimal latency like real-time communications, live streaming ๐ŸŽฅ, and online gaming ๐ŸŽฎ.

Hereโ€™s whatโ€™s under the hood :

  • Integration of WebTransport APIs: The H3 crate now supports the WebTransport APIs, paving the way for it to establish transport sessions and exchange data over HTTP/3.
  • Harnessing the Power of QUIC Protocol: WebTransport sails over the QUIC transport protocol. QUIC is all about speed, offering reduced latency compared to the traditional TCP or WebSockets as it supports multiplexed connections over UDP.
  • Smooth Handshakes and Data Exchanges: The implementation ensures that session handshakes are handled with finesse and that data exchanges occur seamlessly over the established connection.
  • Security in a Fortress ๐Ÿฐ: Connections are wrapped in armor using encryption, and congestion control mechanisms are employed as sentinels to keep the network congestion at bay.

This powerhouse contribution is aimed at arming the H3 crate with more robustness and versatility for high-performance applications. WebTransport integration widens the horizon for applications where H3 can be the knight in shining armor.

I extend a massive thank you to the diligent maintainers and contributors of the H3 repository for guarding this treasure trove of code.

If you want to use webtransport today, you can either install the latest h3, and h3-webtransport crates from github or use my fork: https://crates.io/crates/sec-http3

Happy coding! ๐ŸŽˆ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ
