I introduced Rust at work

So, I introduced Rust at work and wanted to share my experience.

I am a working student (Werkstudent) at a rather typical, but otherwise great startup which is about 3yo.
I do mostly infrastructure and low level backend work, as we do a lot of usual web development. But now we are in the process of writing a native desktop application.

It needs to do some filesystem work, some http calls and be very reliable and robust.
It needs to be cross platform and have bundling inclusive. We didn't want to ship a runtime like Python, Nodejs or god forbid even Java.

I know what you think: Tauri.
And I thought the same. Luckily, our senior gave me support, despite not having much rust experience. Our senior has a way of judging very objectively, so naturally, I was happy to have him support my idea. Our CTO did have some reservations, mostly due to the nature of our most common language beeing typescript.
And also due to some news he heard, about Rust having a fork?!

So, in between note: Of course he meant crablang. We really have to be careful. Reputation damage is real and reaches far, even to those really out of the Rust bubble and to those making decisions. So be kind, don't do stupid things and don't be a fanatic.
Thank you.

Anyways, he agreed it might be the best solution, despite the cost of developers having to get warm with the language. With somewhat about three years of Rust experience, I feel confidently productive enough for this task and to do some introductions and other kind of knowledge transfers.

Now, we started by having me building the skeleton and slowly introducing the team to Rust.
My responsibilty, to the company and the Rust community is now to ensure a great developer experience for my team.

Btw: this also means I am now getting paid to write Rust!

I am very happy and love to see Rust in my workplace, especially being introduced by me.
I hope it turns out well and hope you have a chance to collect similiar experiences.
