Honestly, how is Rust compared to modern C++ for desktop app dev in 2023
Note: I get if this post gets removed for off-topic, I just really like the input and knowledge of the Rust sub users. I'm a big fan of the Rust language, but I'm seeking practical advice here.
I'm thinking of creating a cross platform desktop app, and the largest libraries available are for C++. That includes the foundational libraries, like Qt, and also for the app-specific functionality which requires low-level networking like packet manipulation. Rust has Tauri, but I'm mainly looking for a system-tray-only type of app, and I'm not a fan of relying on a web tech to render my app. I'm striving for quality.
Rust is clearly weaker when it comes to the ecosystem in my case, but at the same time I love the cargo build system, the easy plug-and-play crates and the raliability of written code, and last but not least no stupid, time wasting header files.
But now I'll ask a question that I know is impossible to answer, but I'm looking for different opinions, experiences and reasoning:
which, in your opinion, is better for my green field cross platform desktop app with low level ?
