Think twice before you buy Tim McNamara's courses on Accelerant.Dev. No refunds.
Edit: Moving the verdict to the top as TL;DR.
Edit 2: If you dislike this post, feel free to ask the mod to remove it. I was obiously indignant as a customer but I'm more mentally exhausted by the internet mobs.
TL;DR: This issue would have been resolved easily if Tim McNamara listed clearly on his terms as well as on his course advertisement that refunds are not possible and if he had just promtply told me a no instead of dragging this refund request to close to 3 weeks of communication.
I had huge respect for Tim McNamara for his Rust in Action and wanted to support his work when Accelerant.Dev launched so I bought one of his courses in 6 installments on June 1st. Since then, the course content was constantly delayed. At the time of this posting, not even the first Parsing Commands section is complete.
When I skimmed through the available lectures, the format was for my experiences of a low quality. The video recordings felt like unplanned freestyle sessions. If one had expected the presentation and organization quality of a good Udemy course or a well-known online course (think the quality of ThreeJS Journey from Bruno or Jon Calhoun's web dev with Go courses), then one is in for a let-down. For me, the quality does not meet the price tag.
I sent 2 messages on the website, 2 emails, and 1 tweet to get 1 response about refund policy. No reply. He responded after I put a comment on his course lecture Q&A for visibility, which he then deleted and then finally replied to me in the website's chat:
Then came the radio silence again. So I sent 2 more messages to him. And I said I can just ask my bank to dispute the previous 3 installments assuming that maybe his payment service provider isn't flexible enough and he can't do much from his side. This was not meant as a threat. But Tim McNamara started to say:
I started to lose patience after another radio silence
I skimmed through his website's terms. Only 1 refund keyword found. I will have to pay all my installments for a course that does not meet my expectations. It is what it is.
Verdict: This issue would have been resolved easily if Tim McNamara listed clearly on his terms as well as on his course advertisement that refunds are not possible and if he had just promtply told me a no instead of dragging this refund request to close to 3 weeks of communication.
I will not buy more courses from Tim McNamara. I hope he updates his terms as well as provide a possibility for refund or at least a better preview of his course content for other students to make an informed decision.
