A compile time regression in Rust 1.72.0
Hey everyone,
Updating my rust toolchain to 1.72.0, I stumbled upon a big compile time regression where the rfd crate in release mode takes more than 600s to compile (where it took \~13s before)!
I created an issue on their GitHub (link).
As I described in the issue, the problem is gone in current beta (1.73.0-beta.6) so I figured it was found and already debugged. I tried to find some info on google, rustc repository and here without any luck. However, I discovered cargo-bisect-rustc which showed me the regression occurred in this rustc commit, and finally led to this issue and associated PR fix.
So first of all, once again I'm amazed by rust ecosystem, (me a mere mortal can execute a bisect of rustc on any crate?! :D). So I though sharing this little afternoon adventure could interest some of you.
Secondly, this regression can have huge real world impact and I couldn't find any trace of it online. I mean, in my company we will skip 1.72.0 because of it. Is there any place I could have looked to find out about it? Do you think this kind of issues should have more exposure, or even be hot fixed?
