I absolutely love rust, and I wish I jumped into it sooner

70 points Articulity

I actually love this langauge so much, it’s my 7th day using it and I can already see it becoming my go to langauge. I’m a seasoned python and js dev and rust scratches SOOOOOO many itches. I gave up learning this langauge 3 times before saying you know what let’s dive in. I always thought this langauge was verbose and “yucky” but when I rlly dove deep into the rust book (i finished it in 7 hours), and started converting a python project to rust I realized this langauge is by far the most elegant shit I’ve ever seen in my entire life. The memory safety is just the icing on the cake, rust enums are like a gift from heaven, I went from a python program optimized using 60MB of memory on a 4GB ram i3 laptop, to a 5MB rust program running the exact same software, running python on a potato is hell. Prior to this I was like “ownership is stupid bleh”, “worrying about lifetimes is insanity who cares” and now I sound like a loser telling my friends their code is gonna break because they aren’t using rust. The compiler is like a wise grandfather guiding me down a safe path.

Jokes aside in just 7 days I feel like rust has transformed me into a better developer and I wanna thank the community for answering my idiotic questions.

TLDR: I love rust, python is great but rust is a breath of fresh air, if your hesitating to learn it don’t, it’ll make you a better developer, promise.
