my full rust game HEATCHAIN just released
Hello,
in October 2022, I discovered rust. while experimenting, I found myself making a game that I challenged myself to release.
The game itself is an arcade game, where you have to find the next glyph as quickly as possible, if you want to see more:
- Steam : https://store.steampowered.com/app/2521350/Heatchain/
- Itchio : https://hyultis.itch.io/heatchain
- android : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hyultis.heatchain.MainActivity
The game is therefore entirely written in rust, uses winit and vulkano mainly.
For storing game data (vertex, entities), I wanted to learn so I created a small library HArcMut (it is not yet up to date with the version used in the game, I had a some deadlock problems to fix, and I'm still not sure if I'm doing it correctly)
For Android, the game is compiled as a "cdylib" library, and uses a little java for the entire Google ecosystem (not really a choice at this level). Also it took me a while to do : Vulkan 1.3 is too recent for Android phones, so I had to regress to Vulkan 1.1 and some features are borked (screen rotation in particular)
I published the cargo.toml https://github.com/hyultis/heatchain_public/blob/master/Cargo.toml for those who are interested.
Thanks to the rust community, maintainers, developers, etc. I don't want to come back to another language now :p
