Journey to find a junior Rust job. Any advice?
Hey all,
I'm asking you for advice on finding a job as a junior Rust dev.
Quick background: Master's in Software engineering; I've been working in DevOps since January 2023, but I find myself feeling a bit stuck and not learning as much as I'd like. My passion lies in development, and I'm particularly drawn to Rust and WebAssembly. Despite not studying it in university, I'm determined to make a switch.
In my free time, I've been actively working towards this goal:
- Reading "Programming Rust" to get the basics down.
- Contributing to an open-source project called Spin by Fermyon to get hands-on experience.
- Blogging about my journey to show what I'm up to in my blog.
I know that the market is not easy for juniors, even more so for junior Rust devs; thus, I believe that C++ is also a good choice to chase before get into Rust.
Would really appreciate any advice or tips you might have on getting started as a Rust dev.
