how useful is rust for learning how computer work?

I work as a fullstack dev with 2 years of experience, but I am trying to delve deeper into how computers work and started with a computer systems course/book with C and I am enjoying the experience so far. However, I know that most probably C won't be a language I will be using formally in the future which made me question whether I could/should continue my next topics: \[Operating systems, Network programming and Database systems, ...\] in Rust instead of C, or not.

The things I am a bit worried about is that in C, I get to understand the linux kernel directly since most C functions are eventually wrappers on top of the kernel syscalls with the same names, and man pages and all that, so it feels like the interaction is more direct, manual and closer to what is actually happening in the machine, and in the future I will be working with sockets and building protocols like TCP and HTTP from scratch... Will I get the same experience if I switch to Rust? I understand the whole "safer memory approach" in rust, but does that take away any of the learning experience since that is my main purpose?

Thank you
