Best Rust Web UI Framework for 2024?
Currently I'm using Svelte, and would love to migrate to Rust for all future web projects. The problem: there are no mature Rust UI frameworks, I've dipped my toes with the mainstream ones: Yew, Dioxus, Leptos and Sycamore.
Here's what I think makes me want to go with a UI framework:
- Great docs and examples
- Multiple render modes, CSR, SSR, ISR and SSG
- I18n, very lacking
- Good API design, fine balance with macros and staying true to rust
- File based routing, coming from JS land I miss this a lot
- Minimal Bundle Size, WASM apps might be performant but the bundle sizes are horrible, good tree shaking and code splitting would go a long way
- Fast dev / HMR times, rust could ultimately be the bottleneck here
- Performance, the more the merrier here but as long as it's on par with Svelte and the likes it'll do just fine.
- Testing suite, something to go with the docs but allowing for easy testing of your web code goes a long way
- Storybook like tooling, great for design systems
- IDE tooling, to help with formatting
- Integrated A11y, as tests? part of IDE tooling? this is often overlooked but if executed properly could really add a lot of value
- Deployments? CF Pages, Vercel, Netlify etc.
- insert your wish list item for a ui / meta framework
Existing solutions seem to be half way there, and I'm aware that it's no easy task and alot of very talented people are putting alot of time and resources into solving these problems; but I'm just trying to express my thoughts on the issue and see if there are any updates, roadmaps, upcoming projects or workarounds.
I really think the community deserves a big push on the web UI side of things the coming year, thoughts?
