Seeking an Embedded Scripting Solution for Rust
We are currently evaluating JS, Lua, and Rhai.
Javascript: It offers ease of onboarding users and facilitates quick integration with our solution. It's the most performant scripting option available. However, embedding it requires a large runtime, especially with V8 (\~30MB), and it doesn't natively compile into WASM.
Lua: This language provides reasonable performance and is fairly easy for developers to adopt, though not as much as JS. Lua also boasts probably the smallest runtime (< 1MB). However, it's not natively compatible with Rust and lacks WASM support.
Rhai: This option seems promising due to its WASM support and relatively small runtime (\~2MB with all features). It has native support for Rust, but being a completely new language, it poses challenges in onboarding users.
What are your thoughts, community? Are there other languages or better runtimes for the aforementioned languages that we should consider?
