Rust as first low-level language?

Hi, I am test automation engineer so I work mostly with typescript nowadays and I want to start learning some low-level language.

Rust has a bit of hype now, so naturally I was wondering if you would recommend to start my journey with Rust, or should I pick something more “classic” like C++?

I want to just learn something new and have fun. I use TS and Node at work, so I don’t have any goals or specific use cases in mind when it comes to the new language I want to learn.

If your answer to this is positive, I would appreciate if you can recommend some good resources or your approach to learning Rust.

Thanks!

EDIT: Thanks a lot for all replies. I expected this community is a bit biased towards rust (who would have expected this?) but I got a lot of really great replies and I think it’s a great idea to try C, before jumping into language with higher abstraction level. I think resource wise it is better to try C than Zig, maybe it would be good idea to learn C and then implement some things in Zig.
Also as I am not planning to get a job with C++ or Rust, I just want to have a fun and learn a new things that can make me a better programmer.
