Rust vs C++

As I talk more and more about Rust people keep asking me why is it better than C++. I don't have any experience with C++ and personally I am not a fan of these "X is better than Y" statements, especially not in such a generic way. I much prefer just to show various aspects of the two things to see in which area one is "better" than the other and which area it might be is the other way around.

So I put together a few notes about Rust vs. C++.

Things such as number of programmers, size of the community, number of open source 3rd party libraries etc. Are these valid? Are these even important for decision makers?
