What is hiring rust devs like, realistically?
Hi!
The company I work for is pitching to develop a desktop app for a client. We're mostly a python shop and it's not the kind of work we normally do. I knocked together a proof-of-concept with Rust / egui, but I think if we were to go this route we'd want to know we have a realistic prospect of hiring devs who can support it. Otherwise, our default route is probably a horrible pyinstaller based solution, which I'm slightly disgusted by the idea of.
It seems like there are lots of devs who want to write rust, but I fear a lot of them will have high pay expectations. The rates here are (by tech standards) kind of not great, not terrible, likely somewhere south of 500GBP a day. I'm not in charge of that, I'm just a developer.
Does anybody have good / bad experiences of hiring Rust people, without a crazy FAANG budget?
