Rust in Healthcare

91 points we_must_talk

Dear Rustaceans,

My dream is to build a secure, fast & cross platform electronic medical record system - I am very keen to learn how to program much more and build towards this.
I have not written any Rust code (my limited experience is in javascript & python), but I really love the features of Rust.

How realistic is my proposal? Is the Rust environment mature enough for such a project? I see sufficient development work and full stack applications being developed, large companies are already using it, there were several articles about govn bodies in USA advising moving to rust from other “low level” programming languages.

I want to start with the smallest standalone healthcare niche I can find & I have several candidate systems in mind (think of it as one small largely self contained system - which will need to communicate with other legacy healthcare systems if deployed.

So is the rust environment mature enough for me to try this? Im nervous as I know I am junior & I sadly am always short on time.

If this is an unacceptable post please down vote - tell me why and I will happily delete.

P.s. I love this corner of reddit
