Transitioning into rust from Go experience.
I have been programming in Golang for more than 2 years, and after all the Rust hype online, I decided to give Rust a try.
I started learning Rust from the book, but after the first guessing game example, I was bewildered by the language and its syntax, so I quit and went back to Go, believing it was the better choice for me. Recently, however, I found myself bored and decided to revisit Rust.
This time around, I thoroughly read "The Book" and "Rust by Example," and then started exploring the language, building HTTP REST APIs, experimenting with web sockets, and creating CLI tools.
One aspect that I prefer in Rust over Go is the fact that Rust offers utility functions and better error handling, giving it a JavaScript-like vibe. In contrast, Go requires importing utilities functions and has a different approach to error handling. When I was learning Golang, it took me days to fully understand its concurrency, goroutines, channels, using select. In fact, I had to write robust servers before I could fully grasp how goroutines work. On the other hand, it only took me a few minutes to understand Rust's thread, sync, and mpsc packages.
Now that I'm comfortable with Rust, I find it easier and more enjoyable than Golang, which is interesting because many online discussions claim the opposite. I'm curious if anyone else feels this way?
I don't mean to be biased; this is just my honest assessment. My experience with Rust has left me feeling pumped to write more programs in the language.
