How many of you are getting paid?

I've been learning Rust in my spare time for a little over a year. I graduated with a CS degree last year, and have about 9 months professional experience working as an associate software engineer. This experience has been a huge letdown so far. I expected I would be developing algorithms, writing libraries, or at least working on a codebase for most of the day. In reality, I spend most of my time filling out forms and working with black-box services developed by WITCH companies. We have no idea how these work internally and when we develop new features that call these services we just send in different JSON payloads until something seems to work, but it will eventually break in production. The codebase was developed by offshore contractors who would only spend 3-6 months before being cycled through other departments.

Working with Rust in my spare time has maintained my sanity and enthusiasm for software development in general. The documentation is incredible and the community active and engaged. It is basically the opposite of my "professional" experience so far. I would like to get paid to work with Rust some day, but I don't know how realistic this is. For those of you who are getting paid, what do you do? What industry do you work in, and if you feel comfortable sharing, how much do you make?
