Come test a novel "trait debugger" for Rust
Greetings from the Cognitive Engineering Lab! The same lab that has brought you The Rust Book Experiment, Aquascope, and Flowistry.
We are looking for Rust experts to participate in a study about a tool for debugging complicated Rust type errors. We developed a novel tool designed to explain complicated errors involving traits, like those you get when using crates like Axum, Diesel, nAlgebra, and Bevy. In this study, you will meet over Zoom with a member of our lab and solve a series of debugging tasks using our new trait debugger. Your participation will help us evaluate how well the tool works and help us improve the Rust trait-debugging experience in the future.
What’s Involved:
- Pre-study Preparation: 30 min
- Duration: 1 hour
- Format: Zoom video call
- Tasks: debugging ill-typed Rust programs
- Compensation: $20 Amazon gift card
Who’s Eligible?
- Adults 18 years or older that are fluent in English
- Rust experts, meaning
- you are employed as a Rust developer or are a crate developer/maintainer
- you are deeply familiar with traits, impl blocks, and generic types
If you’re interested in participating we ask that you book a time slot with this questionnaire: https://forms.gle/7zKnrXhqzi9zhsj36. Spots are limited, so we encourage you to respond soon to secure your place.
