rustyjobs.com — a Rust job board I built while in between jobs to try and escape linkedin
I worked for a Rust-first company for the last 4 years, until being laid off just before Christmas last year. Current job market situation is weird to say the least. It's not easy competing with more experienced engineers in this space who are also suddenly on the market. Can't complain too much though I guess, Rust jobs have always been kind of few and far between, and it was always geared towards more senior folks.
Anyhow, I figured since I'm already browsing linkedin et al. almost daily these days, which is waay more than I'd like, I could just as well try to aggregate some of the stuff I'm seeing in a single place. This led me to an idea of doing a Rust job board. Niche enough to pique my interest.
I'm also heavily dogfooding my new web app bootstrapping library building this, which is always great. If you don't count HTML, CSS and JS (htmx) the site is 100% Rust. I really like it that way. It's quite relaxing to work with, and the end result is rather satisfying.
For the job board I wanted to introduce some kind of a twist, so I added the ability to comment on the postings. A bit unorthodox, but could be fun.
In terms of my ideas and plans, stuff I want to work on before a real first public release: directory of companies using Rust connected with the job postings (this is partly ready), better search/filtering abilities, better support for fields like industry and location, in-app job applications.
I'm curious if there are any particular features folks would like to see with this kind of project. Would love to hear your thoughts.
