Can we ban AI already
r/rust currently serves as the basin for the shit spigot of posts written by claude about projects coded by claude from ideas made by claude. They all follow the same pipeline of 2 days "development" -> reddit post -> test on users -> die.
There's a million low effort pet projects here reinventing the wheel. The problem isn't that we have pet projects, it's that they don't have anything to do with rust. Buzzwords like "memory-safe", "fast", "performant", "lightweight", and "cross-platform" litter these posts like weeds, when the projects don't have anything to do with any of it. It just so happens that rust was the language claude was told to shit out all over the repo, because it's hype and trendy. Look at any one of these, and they're fluffed up with these useless tech breakdowns elaborating over the same unoriginal ideas.
The comments on these posts always break down to the same handful of "nice job" or "cool idea" praises, and the rest are deliberating over the use of AI, making it immediately clear that these posts don't serve as anything more than advertising and/or engagement bait. Given that most comments are criticizing the use of AI on these projects, it's quite clear that the community actually engaging on posts in this sub doesn't want this.
Whether you think AI has a place in developer workflows has no bearing on this issue. Check the post history of any of these posters - you'll see the same shit posted to five different subs, and r/rust just happens to be one of the outlets that lets this behavior run rampant. Letting these AI posts hold such a prominent presence in this subreddit means that the discussion shifts towards just being another outlet for these slop projects.
