[Media] WRAC Stack – WebView + Rust + CLAP audio plugin template with 15k+ users

Hi everyone,

We at NovoNotes have just open-sourced our internal WebView-based audio plugin stack, which we've been using in production to serve over 15k users.

We wanted to provide a modern alternative for audio plugin development, combining the web frontend ecosystem with Rust's performance.

We have open-sourced two core components:

  • WRAC Plugin Template

A template project for our "WRAC" stack (WebView + Rust Audio + CLAP). It implements a simple "WRAC Gain" plugin and supports VST3 / AU / Standalone builds via clap-wrapper.

  • wxp

The underlying UI crate powered by wry that handles bidirectional IPC. It provides Tauri-like IPC (invoke / Channel) for concise communication between Rust and JS/TS.

Why we built this:
Combining the web and Rust sounds great, but audio plugin development introduces unique headaches (like DAW lifecycles and window parenting) that are notoriously hard to handle. This template abstracts away all those complex integration quirks out-of-the-box so you can jump straight into development!

P.S. If anyone happens to be in Tokyo next week, we’ll also be giving a talk about this exact architecture at ADC Japan! Since it's a rare opportunity to meet in person, I'd love to connect and make new friends. We should definitely grab a sushi lunch or coffee together!

EDIT: Wow, thank you all for the incredible interest and expectations!

Just to clarify, "WRAC Stack" is simply our internal architecture, not a universal framework like JUCE.

What we have open-sourced is the wrac-plugin-template repository, a starter template to help you jumpstart your initial setup. We have zero plans to monetize this, and it is (and will always remain) 100% MIT-licensed.

With our upcoming talk at ADC Japan, we just wanted to give back to the community by sharing a case study that worked for us. Since we aren't looking to maintain a long-term framework, please feel free to fork and adapt it to your needs! We hope it serves as a helpful reference for your own WebView + Rust journey.
