Hi all,
I'm the developer of Times of Progress, a city builder game set during the industrial revolution.
It's made with Bevy and Rust.
I have been working on it for the past 3.5 years and a few days ago I released its demo on Steam, you can check it out here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4910890/Times_of_Progress_Demo/
In the game you extract natural resources and convert them into secondary materials and consumer goods for the population. You transport them via road, rail and ship between warehouses and need to build the infrastructure for it. The goods are used to satisfy the needs of the population and keep them happy.
My experience with Bevy has been pretty great. Its ECS and multithreading by default allowed me to build a pretty complex game with lots of interacting systems without being an experienced game developer before starting, nor an experienced programmer honestly. In my past professional life I was a data scientist using python and by luck stumbled on Rust and fell in love with it.
I'm hoping to show with my game that it's possible to ship commercial products with Bevy. I don't have a whole lot of experience with other engines, but I don't think I would have been much faster with another engine, at the same level of experience.
I also really like how it's very easy to make changes and everything is very flexible. Between the beta that I ran a month ago and now I had to adjust a fair amount of stuff and I really didn't have to refactor much, just tweak and access more or less data from the ECS depending on my need. It felt extremely productive.
Finally, I extend a big thank you to all those that have contributed to Bevy and the ecosystem! FOSS is amazing.
Let me know if you have any questions!
